Tryouts for Barcelona NY Soccer Club start June 4, 2012
Barcelona NY Soccer Club will be holding open tryouts for the 2012/2013 season for the following travel teams: U9, U10, U12, U14, U17. For more information please check out Barcelona NY Tryouts.
5 Teams Competing in WYSL
Five Barcelona NY Soccer Club teams will be competing in the WYSL Spring 2012 season. Boys teams will be competing in U9, U11, U13, HS1 (U18) and HS3 (U16). Our teams practice twice during the week and on Saturdays with games on Sundays. For more information please contact info@barcelonanyacademy.com.
3 teams compete in indoor season
On Saturday February 4th the Sports Underdome Session 1 indoor league was completed. Three Barcelona NY teams competed in the U9, U11 and U13 leagues respectively. This was Barcelona NY’s first time in a league and as a new club we were excited to participate.
Our goal was to participate in a manner that would build on the training and put into practice what we have learned about the Barcelona system. Our U9 and U11 teams built their passing game during the sessions and improved tremendously during the 7 week indoor season.
The U13 team were putting the system into practice and played well throughout the seven week season – earning a spot in the championship game against a tough opponent which we just could not overcome. Along the way the team overcame a division 1 team – quite an accomplishment for a new team. The U13 finished second and as finalists in the competition.
Congratulations to the coaching staff and all 3 boys teams for the way in which they competed. We are proud to say that we stayed focused on performance as opposed to results and we are confident that the player development as a result was greatly improved. We strongly believe that with the right practice and focusing on individual and team performance within the system, we will see our players performing well under game situation pressure, developing as players and as they execute as a team, so the results will come.
Barcelona NY has added to winter coaching sessions. The Sunday session is for boys and girls U5-U11 and the Monday session is for Girls ages 12-15. For more information, please go to Winter Clinics.
Barcelona NY Boys U9, U11, and U13 have been particpating in the ENYSA Indoor League at the Underdome in Mount Vernon This January. We are working hard to implement in the games what we are working on in practice. The league concludes in two weeks.
Barcelona NY Soccer Club U17 team played its first friendly match on October 23rd at Van Cortland Park Stadium. It was great to see our guys put what they have learned in practice into the game situation. photos from the game can be found in the gallery.
Our Director of Coaching, Marcio Romero, ran a successful skills clinic for U17-U19 players in Riverside Park. Included were members from our U17 & U19 Academy Program that were also joined by players from high school, college and other travel teams from the NY region. Check out photos here.
Barcelona NY Visited with Barcelona USA as well as Coaches from Barcelona, Spain.
President, Gary Cohen, and Director of Player Development, Marcio Romero, recently traveled to Los Angeles to meet with coaches from Barcelona USA as well as Coaches from Barcelona, Spain.
While in LA, they attended three Barcelona USA Academy training sessions. Marcio commented: "We were very impressed with the way Barcelona USA has implemented the system. We are looking forward to bring Barcelona USA's development program to NY in order to help our players develop into complete players."
